How Do I Add Product Variants Like Sizes and Colors?

Use the variant editor under any product to define option sets like Size or Color, then let the matrix generator create every combination automatically.

You add product variants from the product edit screen — open the product, go to its Variants section, and either add variants one by one or flip on the Matrix generator when creating a new variant. The generator lets you define up to three option types (Size, Color, Material, whatever makes sense for your product) with as many values per option as you want.

How does the variant matrix generator work?

Once you've defined your option types and their values, generate the matrix. VeloCMS creates every possible combination automatically — so if you have three sizes (S, M, L) and four colors (Red, Blue, Green, Black), you get twelve variant rows in one go. Each row gets a name like "Red / S", an auto-generated SKU built from the option values, and the base product price pre-filled, and you confirm the batch before anything is created. You can edit any row afterwards, including overriding the SKU.

You can run the generator again as you add new options. Your existing variants are never touched — rows whose generated SKU collides with an existing variant simply fail, and the result summary tells you how many were created and how many were skipped as duplicates. The generator caps at three option axes and creates at most 100 variants per run.

Can I set different prices for different variants?

Yes, each variant row has its own price field. The matrix generator pre-fills every row with the base product price, and you can edit any row to override it — so a Large might cost more than a Small. The checkout always uses the price set on the variant the customer picks.

How do I track stock per variant?

Every variant row has a Stock field where you enter the current quantity, or you can mark the variant as unlimited stock if inventory doesn't apply. When a customer buys a specific variant, VeloCMS decrements that count automatically. If a tracked variant hits zero, it shows as Out of Stock on the product page and can't be added to the cart. If you'd rather keep selling regardless of inventory, edit the variant and switch on its unlimited-stock flag.

What if I want to attach a different image to each variant?

There is no per-variant image field today — variants carry a name, their option values, a SKU, a price, and stock, and the storefront shows the product's main image for every variant. The practical workaround is to name variants clearly ("Red / Small") so shoppers always know exactly which option they picked, and to show the different colors or styles in the product's main image gallery.
