Most photography sites are gorgeous and slow — huge images that crawl, galleries you had to wrangle a plugin to build. Let's do the opposite. I'll set up a photographer's blog where the gallery comes first, the photos load fast, and every shot even carries its camera settings. No plugins, no wrestling.
It starts the second you sign up. VeloCMS asks what you're building, and there's a card made for exactly this — a photography portfolio, gallery-first, with a print shop and EXIF baked in. I pick that, and the whole setup tilts toward showing images, not paragraphs.
Next it hands me a theme already right for photos — Aperture, a clean grid where the pictures do the talking. I hover a preview to see it with real images, then choose it. That's the design decision made, without me touching a single line of CSS.
And here's Northlight, live. The homepage isn't a wall of text — it's a photo grid, images edge to edge, with my categories right up top: Portraits, Landscapes, Street. People browse by the kind of work they came for, and it reads like a portfolio, not a blog template.
Want a dedicated set? I open Pages, start from the Gallery template, and drop in a batch of shots — no code, just a grid I arrange. Published, it opens into a full-screen lightbox, and tap any frame and there's the EXIF: the camera, the lens, the settings behind the shot.
The part you can't see is the best part. Those photos get optimized and served fast — no plugin, no setting to babysit — and every post ships with structured data and a sitemap, so search engines understand your images. Beautiful and findable, which is rare for a photo site.
That's a photographer's blog — gallery-first, fast, and ready to be found — set up in minutes. Start yours on the free trial at velocms dot org.
