Author Card

A byline card under every post, with the author's photo, bio and links

What it does

Author Card adds a bordered card at the end of each blog post. It always shows the author's name. Depending on what you switch on, it also shows their profile photo, a short biography, and links to Twitter / X, GitHub, LinkedIn and a personal website. The bio and links come from the author's own public author profile, which each person fills in under Settings, General. The card is added by the theme's post layout in the space after the article body, so it follows your theme's colours. Posts with no author name show no card, and you can turn the three parts off one by one.

Who it's for

Bloggers, magazines and small teams who want readers to see who wrote a post and where to follow them. It helps a solo writer build a personal brand, and it helps a site with several writers credit each person under their own articles. It is also useful if you want a short, consistent bio on every post without pasting it into each article by hand.

How it works

  1. Install and enable the Author Card plugin from the marketplace. Once it is on, posts that have an author name get the card.

  2. Open the plugin's settings and choose what the card shows: the avatar, the biography, and the social links. All three are on at first. Save.

  3. Each author opens Settings, General and fills in Your public author profile: a biography and, if they like, Twitter / X, LinkedIn, GitHub and website. Only the signed-in person can edit their own profile.

  4. When a reader opens a post, the page looks up the author by their account and then by their name, and the theme prints the card after the article body.

Settings you configure

Show Avatar
Displays the author's profile photo at the left of the card. The photo comes from the author's account. The picture saved on the post itself is used only when no matching author account is found.
Show Biography
Displays the biography from the author's public profile. It holds up to 500 characters and is plain text.
Show Social Links
Displays links to Twitter / X, GitHub, LinkedIn and a website, but only the ones the author filled in. They open in a new tab.

What it can access

The plugin reads the author's name, bio, photo and four link fields from your own VeloCMS site when a post page is built. It does not contact any outside service and sends no data anywhere. Readers only see what the author chose to put in their public profile, so keep private details out of it. The three switches only hide parts of the card; they do not delete what the author has saved.

Honest limits

  • The card shows one author per post. There is no co-author list, and it cannot be placed anywhere except after the article body.

  • Its look comes from your theme, and you cannot restyle it inside the plugin. Its small labels, such as Twitter / X and Website, are in English whichever language the page uses.

  • The bio is limited to 500 characters and the links are limited to the four listed. Twitter / X, GitHub and LinkedIn accept a handle or a full web link; the website needs a full web link.

  • A post with no author name shows no card. If the plugin cannot find an author account for the name, it still shows the name and the post's own photo, but no bio or links.

  • The Site author details in Settings, General are a separate thing and do not feed this card.

Frequently asked questions

Where do authors write their bio?

In Settings, General, under Your public author profile. Each signed-in person edits only their own bio and links.

Does it appear on pages as well as posts?

No. It appears on individual blog posts, in the slot after the article body.

Why is my card showing only a name?

Either the author has not filled in a profile yet, or the matching switch in the plugin settings is off. Check both.

Can I show a different author for one post?

The card follows the author recorded on that post. Change the post's author and the card changes with it.
