How do I connect Tapfiliate to pay affiliate commissions on real sales?

The Tapfiliate connector reports every completed order to Tapfiliate as a conversion, so your affiliate program works out commissions from real completed orders on your store.
Installing the plugin and the common checklist for a connector that seems to do nothing are shared by every integration and live in the shared integrations guide. This article is only the Tapfiliate part.
Step 1 — Get your Tapfiliate API key
In Tapfiliate, go to Settings → API Keys and copy your API key.
Step 2 — Fill in the Tapfiliate panel
Open Admin → Plugins → Tapfiliate and paste your API key. The panel then has two switches in the Event sync section. Enable Tapfiliate is the master switch and starts off, so the connector reports nothing until you turn it on. Report completed orders sends the conversion after each successful purchase and is on by default. Click Save Settings, then Test Connection.
Tapfiliate has no ping endpoint, so the test submits one conversion for zero dollars, with the order reference velocms-connection-test followed by a timestamp and the customer velocms-connection-test. The test fails only when Tapfiliate rejects the key as unauthorized. A passing test therefore proves the key works, not that the zero-amount conversion was accepted as a real sale.
Step 3 — Attribution mode
The panel offers two attribution modes, Customer email and Referral code. Choose Customer email. VeloCMS identifies the buyer to Tapfiliate by their email address, which Tapfiliate treats as lifetime attribution and which needs no click tracking. Referral code is not wired to a source yet, because VeloCMS does not capture a referral code at checkout, so that option behaves exactly like Customer email today.
This also means VeloCMS does not add Tapfiliate's click-tracking script to your pages. The affiliate link and how Tapfiliate ties a click to a customer's email are configured on the Tapfiliate side.
What gets sent
- The VeloCMS order ID, as the conversion's external ID. Tapfiliate uses it to recognise a repeat, so re-sending an order does not double-count it.
- The order total as the conversion amount.
- The buyer's email address as the customer.
An order without a customer email is skipped. Tapfiliate then matches the conversion to the referring affiliate and calculates their commission according to your program's rules.
If Tapfiliate is briefly unreachable or your API key is wrong, the conversion report fails quietly in the background — it never blocks or delays the order itself. Failures are listed under Admin → Integrations → Sync activity; Tapfiliate has no Retry button there.
Disconnecting
Switch off Enable Tapfiliate, or clear the API key in the same panel, to stop reporting conversions. Commissions already reported to Tapfiliate are untouched; no further orders are reported after disconnecting.
