How do I connect TaxJar to report sales tax on completed orders?
Send every completed order's collected tax to TaxJar for filing. TaxJar reports what Stripe Tax already collected — it doesn't calculate tax at checkout.
TaxJar keeps your sales-tax filings accurate by receiving a copy of every completed order — the buyer's destination, the order total, shipping, and the tax that was already collected. It's a reporting connector, not a tax calculator: Stripe Tax still computes and collects tax at checkout.
Step 1 — Get your TaxJar API token
Log in to your TaxJar account, open Account → TaxJar API, and copy your API token.
Step 2 — Install and configure the plugin
Go to Admin → Plugins → Marketplace, find TaxJar, and click Install. Open Admin → Plugins → TaxJar and paste your API token. You'll also enter your nexus / ship-from address — the location TaxJar uses to determine where you owe tax — and can set a default product tax code for items that don't specify one.
Click Test Connection to confirm the token works before saving. Once saved, toggle the connector on.
Treat your TaxJar API token like a password. VeloCMS stores it encrypted, never displays it back to you in full, and never logs it.
What gets sent, and when
Every order that reaches the completed state is sent to TaxJar's transaction list as soon as it completes — TaxJar receives it as a finished sale ready to appear on your next filing. Nothing is sent to TaxJar until an order actually completes.
TaxJar does not decide how much tax a buyer pays at checkout — that's Stripe Tax's job, if you have it enabled. This connector only reports what was already collected, so your TaxJar transaction history matches your real sales.
Turning it off
Toggle the connector off in the same panel to stop sending orders. Existing transactions already sent to TaxJar are not deleted.
