Outrank

What it does

Outrank writes search-focused articles for you. This plugin gives Outrank a private address on VeloCMS to deliver them to. Pressing Connect creates a webhook URL and a random access token, and you paste both into Outrank once. From then on, each article Outrank publishes is sent to that address and turned into a blog post. The title, body, excerpt, SEO title, SEO description and tags are copied across. The cover picture and any pictures inside the article are downloaded into your own media storage. A Markdown body is converted to HTML. Every body is cleaned before it is saved, so scripts and unsafe attributes are stripped out. When the same article comes through again, the existing post is updated rather than duplicated.

Who it's for

Site owners who pay for Outrank to produce search content and want that content on a VeloCMS blog without copying and pasting each piece. It fits teams who prefer to read and edit AI-written drafts before anything goes public, and also those who trust the output enough to publish straight away. You need an Outrank account with access to its Integrations area, and editor-level access or higher in your VeloCMS admin.

How it works

   Open the Outrank plugin in your admin and press Connect. VeloCMS generates a webhook address unique to your site, plus an access token, and shows both with copy buttons.

   In Outrank, go to Integrations, Webhook, Add integration. Name it, paste the webhook address and the token, and save.

   When Outrank publishes an article, it posts it to your address. VeloCMS checks the token, either sent directly or used to sign the request, and refuses the delivery with a 401 if it does not match.

   Each article becomes a post. Pictures are copied into your media library and the body is cleaned. The post is saved as a draft, or published if Publish immediately is on.

   You get one admin notification per delivery saying how many articles came in, with a button that opens your Posts. The panel's Check button shows the running import count.

Settings you configure

Webhook URL

Generated for you on Connect and shown read-only with a copy button. It contains your site's slug, so it stays the same if you regenerate the token.

Access Token

A random secret created on Connect. It is stored encrypted, shown again only to admins who can open this panel, and anyone who holds it can post to your blog. Regenerate token replaces it and the old one stops working.

Publish immediately

Off by default, so imported articles wait in Posts as drafts. When on, they go live, dated with the publish time Outrank sends or the moment they arrive.

Create categories from tags

Off by default. When on, the first tag on an article becomes its category. A category with a matching slug is reused, and one is created if none exists.

Default category ID

Optional. Paste the record ID of a category to use when no tag category applies. It takes an ID, not a category name, and there is no picker.

Outrank API key

Optional. Add an Outrank API key, then use Find my site, Test connection and Sync now to read the backlinks Outrank earns for your site. It is read-only, only the site owner or an administrator can set it, and it is stored encrypted and never shown again. Importing articles does not need it.

What it can access

The plugin creates posts, updates posts it created earlier, and creates categories when you allow it. It reads nothing else from your site. Inbound deliveries are accepted only with your encrypted access token. Outbound, it downloads each article's pictures into your own storage and, if you add the optional API key, reads your earned backlinks from Outrank. Disconnect switches the plugin off and erases the token and the API key, after which Outrank's deliveries are refused.

Honest limits

• Delivery runs one way, from Outrank to VeloCMS. Edits and deletions you make on your blog are not reported back to Outrank.

• A later delivery of the same article, matched by its slug, overwrites the post. Changes you made to that post in VeloCMS are replaced, and with Publish immediately off it is set back to draft.

• Only articles Outrank sends after you connect are imported. Older articles come through only if Outrank sends them again, for example when you re-run or republish one.

• Pictures that cannot be downloaded, or that exceed 20 MB, are not copied. A failed cover picture leaves the post without one, and a failed inline picture keeps pointing at its original address.

• Embedded frames are removed by the cleaning step unless they come from a video provider VeloCMS recognises, such as YouTube or Vimeo, in which case they are kept as embeds.

• Only the first tag can become a category. All tags are still stored on the post.

• Backlink sync only reads. It never deletes a backlink it has already stored, and it needs an Outrank plan that includes backlinks.
