How do I connect Shippo to create shipments and buy labels automatically?
Paste your Shippo API token and ship-from address, and every physical order creates a Shippo shipment — then buy the cheapest label right from the order screen.
The Shippo connector creates a shipment automatically every time a customer buys a physical product, then lets you buy the cheapest available label straight from the order screen — the label URL and tracking number are saved back to the order for you. It's a free alternative to finishing every shipment by hand in the Shippo dashboard.
Step 1 — Get your Shippo API token
In Shippo, go to Settings → API in your dashboard and copy your API token.
Step 2 — Install and configure the plugin
Go to Admin → Plugins → Marketplace, find Shippo, and click Install. Open Admin → Plugins → Shippo, paste your API token, and fill in your ship-from address — name, street address, city, state, zip, and country. Shippo needs this address on every shipment it creates for you.
What happens after an order
- A completed order for a physical product creates a matching shipment in Shippo automatically, using the order's shipping address and line items.
- Nothing is purchased yet at this point — Shippo just has the shipment on file, ready for rate comparison.
Step 3 — Buy a label from the order screen
Open the order in Admin → Orders and click Buy label. VeloCMS asks Shippo for the available rates on that shipment, purchases the cheapest one, and saves the label URL and tracking number directly onto the order — no need to open the Shippo dashboard at all.
If Shippo is briefly unreachable or your API token is wrong, the shipment-creation step after an order fails quietly in the background — it never blocks or delays the order itself. You can still buy a label manually once the connection is fixed.
Disconnecting
Clear the API token in the same panel to stop creating shipments. Labels already purchased and their tracking numbers stay on their orders; no further shipments are created after disconnecting.
