How do I import my Instagram posts as products?
Admin → Import → Instagram reads your public posts and saves each as a draft product or blog post. Set prices, pick what to keep, and publish when ready.
If you sell through Instagram, your feed already holds your catalogue: a photo, a caption and often a price per post. The Instagram importer in VeloCMS reads your public posts and turns each one into a draft product or a draft blog post, so you do not retype anything. Nothing goes live until you publish it.
Before you start
- The Instagram account must be public. The importer reads public posts only and needs no Instagram login or API key.
- You must confirm that the account is yours, or that the owner has given you permission to use its photos and text. The importer will not run until you tick that box.
- Set your store currency first if you have not (Admin → Settings → Commerce). Prices are saved in your store currency and the preview shows its symbol.
Import your posts, step by step
- Open Admin → Import → Instagram.
- Paste your profile link (for example instagram.com/yourname) and choose 'Products' or 'Blog posts' under 'Import as'.
- Tick the confirmation that the account is yours or that you have permission, then choose 'Latest 12 posts' or 'Latest 24 posts' under 'Number of posts to read'.
- Click 'Preview import'. VeloCMS reads the posts and shows a preview. Nothing is saved yet.
- Review each post. Choose Product, Post or Skip, and edit the title and price where needed.
- Click the import button at the bottom of the preview. Its label shows exactly how many products and posts it will create.
What the preview lets you decide
Every post gets its own Product, Post or Skip choice. 'Set all to Product' and 'Set all to Post' change every row at once, and 'Select all' and 'Select none' change the selection. The title is editable per post. The price field shows your store-currency symbol, and a note on a row tells you when a price needs checking: for example when the caption names several prices, a price range, or a different currency from your store's. In those cases the price is left empty for you to fill in. A video post defaults to Skip, and if you import it only its cover image is used. A carousel imports up to 8 photos. To give several posts the same price, select them, type it under 'Price for the selected posts' and click 'Set price for selected'.
Everything arrives as a draft
Imported products and posts are saved as drafts, hidden from visitors. When the import finishes you see how many draft products were created and how many still need a price. Use 'Review products' to open them, add missing prices and publish the ones you want live. A product without a price stays a draft: the bulk 'Publish all imported products and posts' step skips imported products that have no price rather than putting a free product on your store.
Limits worth knowing
- Each import reads the latest 12 or 24 posts, your choice.
- Each store can start 3 Instagram reads per day and 10 per 30 days. If you hit a limit, the page tells you so; try again later.
- Posts you imported before are skipped on the next run, so running it again does not create duplicates.
- Public accounts only. A private or misspelled profile shows an error asking you to check the name and that the account is public.
Frequently asked questions
- Will my Instagram posts appear on my store straight away? No. Everything is saved as a draft, and nothing is published until you publish it.
- Can I import videos or Reels? A video post defaults to Skip. If you choose to import it, only its cover image is used, not the video itself.
- Can I import a private account? No. The importer reads public posts only, and you must confirm the account is yours or that you have permission to use its content.
- What if a post has no price in the caption? The product is created as a draft with the price empty. Add the price in the preview or later in Admin → Products before publishing.
- Can I import the same account again? Yes, within the read limits. Posts already imported are skipped.
