MailerLite

New members land in MailerLite as subscribers, in the group you choose

What it does

This plugin sends the people who join your site to your MailerLite account. When a member record is created, by a reader signing in with an email link, by a checkout, by a comp grant or by an import, the plugin posts their email address to MailerLite's subscriber endpoint. If the member has a display name it goes into MailerLite's name field. If you entered a group ID, the subscriber is placed in that group. MailerLite treats the call as create or update by email, so an address it already knows is refreshed rather than copied. Later, when the reader turns off your newsletter, hard-bounces, reports spam, or is deleted, the plugin sets their MailerLite status to unsubscribed. Each attempt is written to the member's integration activity as ok or failed.

Who it's for

Writers and small businesses who design their emails, automations and landing pages in MailerLite while their readers sign up on a VeloCMS site. It fits a setup where one MailerLite group is the starting point for a welcome sequence. You need a MailerLite account with access to its Developer API so you can create a token, and optionally the ID of the group you want new readers to join.

How it works

  1. In MailerLite, open Integrations and create a token under Developer API. Paste it into the plugin, add a group ID if you want one, and save.

  2. A new member record appears on your site. CSV and platform imports pass their new members through a few at a time.

  3. The plugin posts the email, the display name if there is one, and your group to MailerLite, which creates the subscriber or updates the one with that address.

  4. When that reader unsubscribes from your newsletter, hard-bounces or files a spam complaint, the plugin switches their MailerLite status to unsubscribed. Their account on your site stays.

  5. When you or the reader delete the member account, the plugin makes the same unsubscribe call before the record is removed. The MailerLite subscriber is not deleted.

Settings you configure

MailerLite API Key
Required. Generate it in MailerLite under Integrations, Developer API. The value is encrypted when saved, and the form afterwards shows dots instead of the token, so you only paste again when you replace it.
Group ID
Optional. The numeric ID of a group from Subscribers, Groups in MailerLite. Leave it empty and new readers are added as subscribers with no group.

What it can access

When a member joins, the plugin reads their email address and display name. On an opt-out or an account deletion it reads only the email. It does not look at your posts, your orders or any payment details. Calls go to connect.mailerlite.com and nowhere else. Your MailerLite token is stored encrypted, and the browser never receives it back after saving.

Honest limits

  • People who were already members before you configured the plugin are not sent. Only member records created afterwards trigger a sync.

  • The sync runs in one direction. Changes, unsubscribes or deletions you make inside MailerLite are not copied to your site.

  • Only the email, the display name and one optional group are sent. Membership tier, custom fields and MailerLite segments are left alone.

  • A display name edited after signup is not pushed again, since profile changes do not trigger the plugin.

  • Deleting a member unsubscribes the MailerLite subscriber but keeps it in your account. Remove it in MailerLite if you need it gone completely.

  • A failed signup sync can be resent from the Sync activity page. A failed unsubscribe is logged but has no resend button.

  • Each call is given about ten seconds. If MailerLite is slow, down, or rejects the token, signups and deletions on your site finish anyway and the failure is recorded.

  • Settings only take effect while the plugin is installed and switched on for your site.

Frequently asked questions

Will a reader who signs up twice appear twice in MailerLite?

No. MailerLite matches subscribers by email address on this endpoint, so a second call for the same address updates the existing subscriber.

Where do I find the group ID?

In MailerLite, go to Subscribers, then Groups, and copy the number for the group you want. Paste only the digits into the Group ID field.

Does deleting a member remove them from MailerLite?

It marks them unsubscribed, so they stop getting your campaigns, but the subscriber record and its history stay in MailerLite. If MailerLite has no subscriber with that email, the plugin logs it as nothing to do.

What happens if my token is wrong?

Signup still succeeds on your site. MailerLite's error code is written to the member's integration activity as a failed attempt, so you can fix the token and resend the signup from the Sync activity page.
