What it does
When a new reader becomes a member of your site, this plugin creates or updates a subscriber for that email address in your Kit (ConvertKit) account, using the first word of their display name as the first name. If you set a tag name, it also applies that tag to the subscriber. When a reader unsubscribes from your newsletter, or their member account is deleted, the plugin unsubscribes the matching Kit subscriber so Kit stops emailing them. Each attempt is recorded as a success or a failure on the integrations activity page of your admin.
Who it's for
Creators who send their newsletters from Kit and want signups on their own VeloCMS site to arrive there without manual exports, tagged so you can segment them. It fits a blog, course or membership site where the audience is built on your domain and the emails go out from Kit. If you send newsletters from VeloCMS itself, you can skip it.
How it works
You paste a Kit V4 API key into the plugin settings, optionally add the name of an existing Kit tag, and save.
A new member signs up on your site, through the email sign-in link, at checkout, or by import.
The plugin creates or updates the subscriber in Kit with their email address and first name, then applies your tag if one is set.
When the reader later unsubscribes from your newsletter or their member account is deleted, the plugin looks the subscriber up by email and unsubscribes them in Kit.
Settings you configure
- API Key (v4)
- Create a V4 API key in Kit under Settings, Developer. The older v3 API Secret does not work with Kit's v4 API.
- Tag Name (optional)
- The name of a tag that already exists in Kit. It is matched by exact name, ignoring upper and lower case. If it is not found, members are still added but not tagged.
What it can access
The plugin reads the email address and display name of each new member at signup, and the email address when a reader unsubscribes or a member is deleted. It does not ask for access to your posts or orders. The plugin only calls api.kit.com. Your API key is stored encrypted and is not shown again in plain text.
Permissions
- Read new member email and name at signup
- Make network calls to api.kit.com
- Store your Kit API key encrypted
External network access
This plugin makes requests to the following domains:
api.kit.comapi.convertkit.com

Honest limits
Only members created after you install and configure the plugin are synced. Existing members are not copied over.
Changes you make in Kit, including unsubscribes made there, do not flow back into VeloCMS.
Only the email address and first name are sent. Custom fields and forms are not set.
The tag must already exist in Kit. The plugin does not create tags, and a tag that cannot be found or applied is skipped without being recorded as a failure.
Opting out unsubscribes the subscriber in Kit. It does not delete them, and a subscriber who is not found in Kit is treated as already done.
If Kit is unreachable or rejects a request, the failure is logged and the signup or deletion still goes through. A failed signup sync can be retried by hand with the Retry sync button on the integrations activity page. Failed unsubscribes are listed there but cannot be retried from it.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I find the API key?
In Kit, open Settings, then Developer, and create a V4 API key. Paste it into the plugin settings. It is stored encrypted. An older v3 API Secret will not work.
Will my existing members be added to Kit?
No. The plugin acts when a new member is created. People who joined before it was installed need to be imported into Kit separately.
What happens in Kit when a reader unsubscribes on my site?
The plugin finds the subscriber by email and unsubscribes them in Kit, so Kit stops sending to them. The subscriber is not deleted from Kit.
Why was a member added but not tagged?
The tag name you entered was not found in Kit, or Kit refused to apply it. Create the tag in Kit first and check the spelling. The member is still added either way.
