Typeform

Every Typeform response with an email becomes a subscriber on your blog

What it does

Typeform Subscribers connects one of your Typeform forms to your members list. You give the plugin a Typeform personal access token and the form's ID, tell it which question holds the email address, and let it register a webhook on the form. After that, each submission is delivered to VeloCMS signed with a secret you chose, checked, and turned into a free member who is subscribed to your newsletter. You can map a second question to the member's display name. People who are already members are left as they are. A new member also triggers your other connected plugins and a dashboard notification, and the members list marks the source as Typeform.

Who it's for

Bloggers and small businesses that collect sign-ups, quiz results or waiting lists in Typeform and want those people on their newsletter without a Zapier step in between. It suits anyone who can create a personal access token in Typeform and copy a field reference. If your signup form lives on your own site, the built-in subscribe forms are simpler.

How it works

  1. In Typeform, create a personal access token under Account settings, Personal tokens. In your admin, open the plugin, paste the token, the Form ID from your form's address and a webhook secret of your choosing, then save.

  2. Press Test Connection to confirm Typeform accepts the token, then Look up field references and copy the reference of the email question, and of a name question if you want one, into the mapping boxes.

  3. Press Register Webhook. VeloCMS puts a webhook named velocms on your form that points at your VeloCMS webhook address and carries your secret. You can also paste the shown address under Connect, Webhooks in Typeform by hand.

  4. Someone submits the form. Typeform posts the response, and VeloCMS rejects it unless the signature header matches your secret.

  5. VeloCMS reads the email answer and creates a free subscribed member if that address is new. Anything it cannot map is skipped quietly while Typeform still gets a success reply.

Settings you configure

Personal Access Token
Created in Typeform under Account settings, Personal tokens. It is encrypted when saved and never shown again afterwards.
Form ID
The ID segment in your form's address. The webhook is registered on this one form.
Webhook Secret
Any random string you choose. Typeform signs each delivery with it and VeloCMS verifies the signature. It is stored encrypted.
Email field reference
The reference of the Typeform question whose answer is the subscriber's email address. Required, because without it every submission is skipped.
Name field reference
Optional. The reference of a question used as the member's display name.

What it can access

The plugin calls api.typeform.com with your token to test the connection, read your form's questions and register the webhook. It reads the email and optional name answer from each submission and creates or finds a member by email. Other answers are not stored. Your token and secret are kept encrypted at rest, and incoming deliveries are accepted only when their signature verifies.

Honest limits

  • Submissions become free members only. They are not assigned a paid tier, and this plugin sends no magic-link sign-in email.

  • Only one form can be connected, with one webhook registered on it.

  • Answers other than email and the optional name are not saved anywhere in VeloCMS.

  • If your plan has a subscriber limit and you have reached it, new addresses from Typeform are skipped silently. Existing members are unaffected.

  • A submission with no valid email in the mapped question, or an unmapped email field, is skipped. There is no failure log for skipped submissions.

  • Uninstalling removes the velocms webhook that VeloCMS registered on your Typeform form. If Typeform cannot be reached at that moment, VeloCMS sends you a notification saying the webhook may remain, and you then delete it yourself under Connect, Webhooks.

  • Members removed in VeloCMS are not removed from Typeform, and Typeform responses are never deleted by this plugin.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Zapier or any other tool?

No. VeloCMS registers the webhook on your Typeform form itself, using the token you supply, so responses travel directly from Typeform to your site.

How does VeloCMS know a delivery really came from Typeform?

Typeform signs every delivery with the secret you set, and VeloCMS checks that signature against the raw request before reading anything. A missing or wrong signature gets a 401 and is ignored.

What happens if the same person submits twice?

Nothing changes. VeloCMS looks the address up first, and an existing member is left as they are rather than duplicated.

Will a mapping mistake make Typeform disable my webhook?

Once the signature is valid, VeloCMS replies with success even when it cannot turn the answer into a member, so a mapping problem does not make Typeform treat the webhook as failing.
