Plausible Analytics

Plausible's lightweight script on every page, set up with your domain

What it does

This plugin adds the Plausible Analytics script to the public pages of your blog. You type the domain you registered in Plausible and the plugin adds one script tag, loaded from plausible.io, to each page. Plausible then records page views for that domain in your own Plausible account. Plausible describes its script as cookie-free, so VeloCMS does not hold it behind the cookie banner. It loads for every visitor, including those in the EU and UK. If Plausible is your only analytics and you run no consent-requiring tracking, such as marketing pixels, the cookie banner is not shown at all.

Who it's for

Bloggers who want simple traffic numbers without a heavy dashboard and without asking readers to accept cookies. It fits you if you already have a Plausible account, or plan to open one, and only need page views, referrers and top pages. If you need deep funnels, ad attribution or session replay, look at a fuller analytics tool instead.

How it works

  1. You add your site in Plausible, then enter the same domain in the plugin settings, without https:// or any path, and save. The domain is checked when you save, and a value that is not a plain hostname is refused.

  2. On every public page the plugin adds one script tag with your domain in its data-domain attribute. A stored value that is not a valid hostname adds no tag.

  3. The script loads from plausible.io for every visitor straight away. There is no consent step in between.

  4. Plausible records the visits, and you read the numbers in your Plausible dashboard.

Settings you configure

Domain
The domain exactly as registered in Plausible, for example myblog.com. Enter it without https:// or paths. It is lowercased on save. A comma-separated list of up to 10 hostnames is accepted for a Plausible rollup view. If it does not match, Plausible will not attribute the visits to your site.

What it can access

The plugin does not read your posts, members or orders. It only needs the domain you enter. In your visitors' browsers it loads one script from plausible.io, and Plausible receives visit data for that domain under its own terms. Nothing is sent from your VeloCMS server to Plausible, and nothing from Plausible is written back into VeloCMS.

Honest limits

  • The script always loads from plausible.io. Self-hosted Plausible and custom script hosts are not supported.

  • It loads for every visitor with no consent step. Whether that suits your legal situation is for you and your advisor to decide. The plugin does not make a site compliant with any privacy law.

  • Only the domain setting exists. Plausible's script extensions, such as outbound link or file download tracking, are not available.

  • VeloCMS does not show Plausible's numbers. Reports are read in your Plausible account.

  • The domain is checked as a plain hostname, in the settings form and again on the server when you save. A value with a protocol, path, port or spaces is refused. A well-formed hostname that you did not register in Plausible passes the check and simply records nothing useful.

Frequently asked questions

Does Plausible need a cookie banner?

Plausible states that its script does not use cookies, and VeloCMS does not gate it behind the banner. If Plausible is your only analytics plugin and you run no marketing pixels or other consent-requiring tracking, no banner appears. Check Plausible's own documentation for your situation.

What do I enter in the Domain field?

The domain exactly as you registered it in Plausible, such as myblog.com, with no https:// and no path. The form refuses anything that is not a plain hostname. A mismatch means Plausible will not count the visits for your site.

Does it work on a custom domain?

The script loads on whichever address the visitor uses. Register the domain you want reported in Plausible and enter that same name in the plugin settings.

Can I run it alongside Google Analytics?

Yes, both plugins can be active at once. Each one adds its own script, and Google Analytics keeps its consent step while Plausible loads immediately.
