Microsoft Clarity

What it does

Microsoft Clarity shows how readers click and scroll through your pages, as heatmaps and as recorded sessions you can replay. This plugin connects your blog to it. You enter the Project ID of your Clarity project, and every public page gets the Clarity tag in its head. The tag is held back until consent is settled, because Clarity sets its own first-party cookies to stitch page views into a session. Until then the page only defines a small loader function and contacts no Microsoft server. Once the reader is cleared, the browser fetches the tag from www.clarity.ms and recording begins. You review heatmaps and recordings inside Clarity; VeloCMS does not display them.

Who it's for

Bloggers and small content teams who want to see where readers stop scrolling, which links draw clicks and where a layout trips people up. You need a Microsoft Clarity account with a project for your site. It pairs well with a traffic tool such as Plausible or Google Analytics, which answer how many people came and from where, while Clarity shows what they did once a page loaded.

How it works

   Create a project in Microsoft Clarity, copy its Project ID, paste it into the plugin settings and save. The form accepts 6 to 32 letters and digits, with no spaces or symbols.

   Your public pages now carry a deferred Clarity loader in the head. Until it runs, nothing is fetched from Microsoft and no Clarity cookie exists.

   A reader from the EU, EEA or UK, or from a country that is not reported, sees the cookie banner. Accept All runs the loader and recording starts; Reject All keeps Clarity off.

4. 04

   Readers from other countries see no banner, and the loader runs as soon as the page is interactive. A reader who accepted on an earlier visit gets the tag directly in the server-rendered page.

   Session data goes to Clarity's collection host, and heatmaps and recordings then appear in your Clarity project.

Settings you configure

Project ID

Found in Microsoft Clarity under Settings, Overview. Must be 6 to 32 letters and numbers. If a saved ID fails that check, no tag is added and this plugin does not switch the banner on.

What it can access

The plugin does not read your posts, members or orders. It stores only your Project ID, a public value that appears in your page source. After consent, readers' browsers load the Clarity script from www.clarity.ms and send session data, such as clicks and scrolling, to c.clarity.ms. Microsoft holds that data under its own terms, and VeloCMS never receives a copy.

Honest limits

• The Project ID is the only setting. Any recording or privacy options Clarity offers are configured in your Clarity project, not in VeloCMS.

• Heatmaps and session replays are viewed in the Clarity dashboard. Nothing from Clarity is shown inside your VeloCMS admin.

• The banner is the shared VeloCMS one with fixed Accept All and Reject All buttons. One Accept also releases any other consent-gated tools you run, such as Google Analytics or marketing pixels.

• Country comes from the Cloudflare header. Readers outside the EU, EEA and UK are recorded without being asked.

• Your privacy policy should say that sessions are recorded. The plugin does not write that text for you or make the site compliant with any law.
