Shippo

What it does

Shippo takes the physical orders from your store and puts them in your Shippo account, so you do not retype addresses. When a customer pays for an order that contains at least one physical item, the plugin creates a matching order in Shippo. It carries the VeloCMS order ID as the order number, the status Paid, the buyer's name, address, phone and email, and each line item. Digital-only orders are skipped. From the order page in your dashboard you can then press a button to buy a label. VeloCMS asks Shippo for rates, picks the cheapest one, buys it, and saves the label link, tracking number and carrier on the order. Shippo charges your Shippo account for the label.

Who it's for

Store owners who ship physical goods themselves and already have, or are happy to open, a Shippo account. It suits small shops sending ordinary parcels, where the cheapest rate is usually the right one and you would rather not copy addresses between two screens. If your parcels are heavy, oversized or need a particular carrier, read the limits below first, because the label button rates every order with the same fixed parcel size.

How it works

   In Shippo, copy your API token. In VeloCMS, open the Shippo plugin, paste the token, fill in your ship-from address, switch on Enable Shippo and save. The token is stored encrypted.

   Press Test Connection. VeloCMS reads one entry from your Shippo orders to check the token and creates nothing.

   When a customer pays for an order with at least one physical item, VeloCMS creates the order in Shippo in the background.

4. 04

   Open the order in your dashboard and press the Shippo label button on the Shipping labels card. VeloCMS buys the cheapest rate Shippo returns and stores the label link, tracking number and carrier on the order.

Settings you configure

Enable Shippo

Starts switched off. While it is off, no order is sent to Shippo, even if a token is saved.

API Token

Found in Shippo under Settings, API. It is stored encrypted and never shown back to you after you save.

Ship-from address

Name or business, street address, city, state or region, ZIP or postal code, and a two-letter country code. Street, city, ZIP and country are required. Orders are skipped while no usable ship-from address is saved.

Test Connection

Checks that Shippo accepts the saved token with a single read. It does not create an order or buy anything.

What it can access

After a paid order, the plugin reads the order ID, the total, the shipping name, address and phone, the customer's email and the items bought. It sends those details to api.goshippo.com and nowhere else. It does not read your posts or members. Your Shippo API token is stored encrypted and is never shown back in plain text. Buying a label spends money from your Shippo account.

Honest limits

• Buying a label is a real purchase. Shippo charges your Shippo account for it, and the plugin gives no extra confirmation step after you press the button.

• The label button rates every order for one fixed parcel: 10 by 8 by 6 inches, weighing 1 lb. It does not use the real contents of the order. For anything heavier or larger, buy the label in Shippo instead.

• The label is always the cheapest rate Shippo returns. You cannot pick a carrier or service in VeloCMS.

• Line item prices are sent to Shippo labelled as US dollars.

• An order with an incomplete shipping address, or with no ship-from address saved, is skipped and logged. Digital-only orders are skipped.

• If Shippo is unreachable or rejects the request, the sale still goes through. The failure is recorded in the connector activity and is not retried automatically. You can still buy the label by hand from the order later.

• If the record that stops a repeat from being sent could not be saved, a repeated notification can create a second Shippo order. Shippo gives the plugin no way to detect a duplicate.

• It is one way. Changes you make in Shippo are not pulled back into VeloCMS, apart from the label details bought from the order screen.
